Take your coffee expertise to the next level with the SCA Barista Skills Intermediate course. Designed for those with foundational experience, this hands-on programme dives deeper into espresso science, sensory evaluation, grinder calibration, milk texturing, and advanced latte art.

This course will also cover the basic information regarding equipment care.

Price: £495 + SCA Registration including the Exam fee, if taken, approximately €50*

Barista Skills Intermediate

This 2 day course focuses on refining technical expertise, deepening coffee knowledge and building your practical skills beyond the basics learnt at Foundation level.

You’ll explore how origin, processing, and brewing variables influence flavour, while mastering workflow efficiency, sensory evaluation, and customer service essentials.

Combining theory with practical assessments, this internationally recognised certification, if you choose to do the exam, equips you with the skills and confidence to deliver exceptional coffee consistently in a professional setting.

Here are the key skills you’ll learn:

Grinder Calibration & Espresso Variables: Master precise adjustments for grind size, dose, extraction time and yield to achieve consistent, high-quality espresso shots.

Milk Science & Advanced Latte Art: Learn advanced milk texturing techniques for silky micro foam
and create complex latte art patterns with precision.

Sensory Evaluation: Develop tasting skills to assess flavour balance, diagnose extraction issues, and
understand how origin, processing, and roast affect taste.

Coffee Theory: Explore the impact of coffee variety, origin, and processing methods on flavour profiles.

Workflow Management: Optimise efficiency and consistency in a busy café environment.

Equipment Care: Learn maintenance routines for espresso machines and grinders to ensure longevity and performance.

Customer Service & Business Practices: Understand service standards and basic operational principles for professional barista roles.

You can attend the course without taking the examinations The Examination is paid directly by the student to the SCA for approximately €50.
